New Drop Caps menu

Make any letter/word/phrase at the beginning of a line drop a specified amount of lines and have the other lines run around it.

  1. Hilight the text to be dropped
  2. Select from the Format menu -> DropCaps....
  3. In the Drop Caps dialog set the desired number of lines to drop and the indent from the edge of the text.
The lines will then run around the dropped text.

    To remove Drop Caps:

    1. Select the affected text.
    2. Select Format->DropCaps...
    3. In the Drop Caps dialog set the lines and indent to zero.

Support for Mac OS Easy Open

Versions 10 and up of MacLink Plus no longer uses XTND. We have added support for Mac OS Easy Open which will automatically call MacLink Plus to translate files to Sahafi format.

Two new menu items replace the old Import Text menu called 'Import Text with Easy Open' and 'Import Text With XTND'. Each will use the respective method to import word processor files.

      Changed printing interface

Sahafi uses the paper sizes in the LaserWriter 8 driver instead of the MPD. MPD files are only needed for color separation information. We have now modified the Printer Specs... section in the Sahafi Printer Setup dialog to reflect this.

      Font Palette optimization

Using the Font Palette option set from the Sahafi General Preferences now works correctly.

      Better JPEG image handling

JPEG images now import, display and print correctly. Sahafi will bring up a dialog box to warn you if a JPEG image is too large to import.

Improved color separation of clipped EPS images

Sahafi will now correctly color separate greyscale EPS images with clippings paths created by Photoshop. Sahafi no longer draws the image on all plates when it should just knocked out the image. For this to work you must get specifications on the picture block (command - M), then press the Separation. In the separation dialog set the EPS to be 'process separated' and make sure the knock out is set to 'On' and not 'Use EPS Info'.

      Faster Printing.

Major improvements have been made to speed up printing from Sahafi.

      - Files containing a large amount of text are now reduced in size by more than 50%
      - EPSF support has been optimized for fast printing

      Custom Page Sizes

Previously it was only possible to define custom page sizes with LaserWriter 7. This support has now been added in LaserWriter 8. In addition to having full access to the page sizes in the LaserWriter driver, the user can override this to setup a custom size. To do this:

      - Select Printer Setup from the File menu
      - In the Printer Setup dialog select the Sahafi panel from the menu at the top left
      - Press the Printer Specs... button
      - At the bottom of the following window click on the 'Force custom page size' check box. The custom page size area will be highlighted
      - Enter here the width and the depth of the custom size.
      - The 'transverse' option is used to save film on an imagesetter. Select the Transverse box to make the page print rotated by 90 degrees on an imagesetter .

Note: this feature has been designed to work only with imagesetters and Acrobat Distiller.

Save as Sahafi 6 and 7.0 file

Sahafi 7.2 can now save documents that are compatible with Sahafi versions 6 and 7.0.

      - When a version 6 or 7.0 file is opened, Sahafi will ask if it should be converted to version 7.2. If it is not, the file will remain compatible with version 6 or 7.0 even after saving.
      - When you choose 'Save As' from the File menu, there is a new item in the menu at bottom of the 'Save As' dialog window. This item called 'Sahafi version 6 and 7.0 ' will save a Sahafi document as a version 6 or 7.0 file.

      Better Compatibility

Many improvements for greater compatibility with the latest Apple Computers and Mac OS 9.

      New Arabic Dictionary

      al-Nashir al-Sahafi 7.1
      Internet Publishing

Sahafi 7.1 will convert documents directly to HTML keeping much of the text formatting and the images from the original. In addition, users can add hot links to both text and images to create fully functional web pages. On complex, newspaper-style pages, articles can be grouped together and will remain in the same order when exported. All JPEG and GIF images (the main image formats for the web) are exported to the HTML file.

The HTML export feature has been tuned to work with all Arabic enabled Internet browsers.

      PC Compatibility

Sahafi 7.1 includes the ability to import and export text created on Arabic versions of Microsoft's Windows operating system. Combined with Sahafi's 'Tagged Text' feature, user can create files on Windows which will have the correct styling applied to them as the text is imported.

Support for the new Unicode Standard

Arabic text can be imported and exported in the 'ISO 8859-6' format. This is the Arabic portion of the new Unicode standard which will soon be the new standard for encoding text worldwide.

      Read/Write any Text Encoding

The new version adds a new file called the 'Text Translator Annex'. This is a user configurable file which allows the user to enable Sahafi to read or write any text format. For example, the Annex can be configured to read text from little used DOS systems or text which has already been contextually analyzed. The new text formats can be used to publish text to the internet.

Other enhancements include faster picture searching and full support for the latest Apple PostScript printer drivers.
