Support for Mac OS Easy Open
Versions 10 and up of MacLink Plus no longer uses XTND. We have added support for Mac OS Easy Open which will automatically call MacLink Plus to translate files to RSG format.
Two new menu items replace the old Import Text menu called 'Import Text with Easy Open' and 'Import Text With XTND'. Each will use the respective method to import word processor files.
Changed printing interface
RSG uses the paper sizes in the LaserWriter 8 driver instead of the MPD. MPD files are only needed for color separation information. We have now modified the Printer Specs... section in the RSG Printer Setup dialog to reflect this.
Font Palette optimization
Using the Font Palette option set from the RSG General Preferences now works correctly.
Better JPEG image handling
JPEG images now import, display and print correctly. RSG will bring up a dialog box to warn you if a JPEG image is too large to import.
Improved color separation of clipped EPS images
RSG will now correctly color separate greyscale EPS images with clippings paths created by Photoshop. RSG no longer draws the image on all plates when it should just knocked out the image. For this to work you must get specifications on the picture block (command - M), then press the Separation. In the separation dialog set the EPS to be 'process separated' and make sure the knock out is set to 'On' and not 'Use EPS Info'.
Faster Printing.
Major improvements have been made to speed up printing from RSG.
- Files containing a large amount of text are now reduced in size by more than 50%
- EPSF support has been optimized for fast printing
Custom Page Sizes
Previously it was only possible to define custom page sizes with LaserWriter 7. This support has now been added in LaserWriter 8. In addition to having full access to the page sizes in the LaserWriter driver, the user can override this to setup a custom size. To do this:
- Select Printer Setup from the File menu
- In the Printer Setup dialog select the RSG panel from the menu at the top left
- Press the Printer Specs... button
- At the bottom of the following window click on the 'Force custom page size' check box. The custom page size area will be highlighted
- Enter here the width and the depth of the custom size.
- The 'transverse' option is used to save film on an imagesetter. Select the Transverse box to make the page print rotated by 90 degrees on an imagesetter .
Note: this feature has been designed to work only with imagesetters and Acrobat Distiller.
Save as RSG 6 and 7.0 file
RSG 7.2 can now save documents that are compatible with RSG versions 6 and 7.0.
- When a version 6 or 7.0 file is opened, RSG will ask if it should be converted to version 7.2. If it is not, the file will remain compatible with version 6 or 7.0 even after saving.
- When you choose 'Save As' from the File menu, there is a new item in the menu at bottom of the 'Save As' dialog window. This item called 'RSG version 6 and 7.0 ' will save a RSG document as a version 6 or 7.0 file.
Better Compatibility
Many improvements for greater compatibility with the latest Apple Computers and Mac OS 9.
