The upper house of India's parliament has passed a bill that will reserve for women a third of seats in the lower house as well as state assemblies. Seven MPs were suspended for their decidedly unparliamentary protests against the bill. A short video clip is available at the link.
A couple that kissed in a Dubai restaurant has been sentenced to jail and deportation, after an Emirati women complained about their behavior. The article, which described the sentence as lenient, also noted that people hugging were committing a crime against modesty and honor, and were subject to compulsory deportation if convicted of the same under UAE law.
